A friendly manner with everyone. My neighbor has a common touch and everybody likes him a lot.

To memorize something. I worked hard to commit the names to memory.

Come up smelling like roses

To look good after a difficult or bad time. Everybody in the company looked bad except for our manager who came up smelling like roses.
