Even Homer sometimes nods

Even the best of use are liable to make mistakes.

Homer was the greatest of Greek poets. Horace, the Roman poet, wrote to Homer’s occasional poetic lapses: ‘I, too am indignant when the worthy Homer nods, but in a long work it is allowable to snatch a little sleep.’

Here is an example of modern usage:

‘I’ve done the trip twenty times or more. I knew every inch of the road. You’d hardly believe it, but today I took a wrong turning and lost myself.’

‘Those things do happen. Even Homer sometimes nods.’
